How can I start a life abroad after graduation

How can I start a life abroad after graduation?
I'm a nursing student in Georgia, USA and I aspire to move to Europe after I graduate and live and work there for at least a year. I'm thinking either Germany, England, Scotland, or Switzerland (I've visited and am fond of all of these places). How would I go about finding a job, a place to live, and starting a life there? Any advice would be helpful, especially from those who have had experience moving away!

For Germany you become fluent in German, for Switzerland you become fluent in German, French, or Italian depending on where you want to live. If you only speak English you are limited to England and Scotland. You should get in contact with their boards to see what you can do to be qualified in the United Kingdom (though no love for Wales or Northern Ireland?!?!), you may have to attend extra courses, or just pay a fee. If you do speak any of the aforementioned languages the issue is the same, contact the board and find out what the procedure is for qualifying international nurses. Starting a life is your last worry now, you have to be allowed into the country first and be able to find work, which is less easy in the UK.

Who said the States was the best in the West

Who said the States was the best in the West?
My and the wife and 5 other buddies are leaving the United States. I have many in demand skills that are needed everywhere especially in the States. I've got my degree in business, I.T., and Sociology. My wife is a Registered Nurse. Some of my friends that are leaving are 2 Medical Doctors, 1 Dentist, 1 Accountant, and 1 other Registered Nurse. We are very close friends and we've all reached a consensus that that United States won't be such a great place to call home in the future. It could not be more blatantly obvious the the Quality of life in the U.S. is failing while other countries are improving. My and the wife are moving to Sweden. My friends are going to Canada, Australia, and Switzerland. Most of them already have job offers and they will all be making more money with their new jobs. My question is, isn't it sad that the U.S. is failing it's own people in promising the land of Milk & Honey which it so obviously lacks? Isn’t it sad; the direction in which the U.S. is heading? So much social disorder. So much poverty. No quality healthcare for the general public at large. No retirement. No social security. All with homelessness and obesity becoming such an epidemic. And there is no relief. No help from the government. The rich continue to exploit the poor. The poor are held down with no room for advancement. There is no end in sight for how ugly the future looks for the United States. Is anyone out there even concerned about this? What can be done to stop the downward trend of the U.S. And with so many professionals ditching the States. How could the States remain competitive worldwide? Inflation is becoming a huge problem in the U.S. The cost of living continues to climb each year while the income remains the same. Also there are more imports than exports. More money if flowing OUT of the States rather than IN right now. The U.S. borrowed billions of dollars from China and still has no way to pay it back. All while the National Deficit continues to soar ever higher. More than 3 trillion right now. Ever heard the saying "The bigger they are, the harder they fall"? Well soon enough the U.S. will start crashing down. And great will be it's fall.

Don't let the door hit ya on the a$$ on the way out. Oh and by the way. You are welcome for providing you, your wife and your friends with a superior education you would not have gotten anywhere else in the world. Again you are welcome.
2 :
This isn't an answer, because of course i can say, sure it's sad. but 1st. the milk and honey promise was only made to Israel by God. 2nd, who are "so many professionals". I'm a professional, I have my Masters in psych and working on my Ph.D, and I'm not leaving. I work mostly with MDs and other Ph.Ds and none of them are leaving. Yes there are some countries that do other things well. I hear Germany is very nice. France is out. England and surrounding are mildly interesting. The middle east is going down the tubes fast. China and Russia are no campgrounds. Canada is great i hear too. Every country has it's poor, rich and social injustices. Instead of leaving, maybe try to make your own little nitch a better place. if everyone does that then there would be no reason to leave. The government isn't the answer to all your problems. We are the answer to many of our problems. Good luck anyway.

I want to immigrate to Europe and denounce my American citizenship. How I do this

I want to immigrate to Europe and denounce my American citizenship. How I do this?
I want to leave America and head for life else where, but before I do this, I want to work abroad and shop for a country that suits me before settling in. My main concern is making a living. I am currently qualified in the state of OH as a nurse's aid and a truck driver. I was wondering if my current US endorsements would be accepted in the country I want to work in, be transferable or would I have to go through the course all over again to get it and is it a big pain to get the work visas and how do I get them? I am planning to work in either the U.K or Ireland for awhile and eventually move to Switzerland and claiming citizenship there or go to Switzerland directly, live there awhile and then claim citizenship. My reasons for this are my own and if you do not have any useful insight or claim me as unpatriatic as an exscuse to be rude, then I kindly ask of you not to answer. For those with good advice, thank you in advance. Please note I did ask kindly for rude replies not to be posted. Many such responses have been and therefore their comments have been flagged and removed. I do not want to join a foriegn legion. I don't think I'd want to fight for a country to gain its citizenship to find out its a country I rather not live in. Also, fighting in a foriegn armed service is a quick way to renounce my US citizenship. Not a good idea for the previous stated reason. One more day and I will close this question for it seems I am getting no more replies.

Wish I could go with you. From what I understand it is very difficult to get work in any european country unless you are a citizen. You would be a dishwasher or have a menial position. It is difficult to get citizenship as well. Europe is the new America.
2 :
It is not necessary to denounce your American citizenship to live overseas. Just do it.
3 :
Just a cautionary note. Germany, Austria and Switzerland will be a hard place to get accepted by the people that live there, unless you have their genes. I know cuz I tried to move to Austria, but unless you knew the language or had some Austrian in your blood, you were always an outsider. Same experience in Germany. Others I have talked to said they encountered the same problems in Switzerland. Sorry for the not so great news, but I thought I should let you know. I was born in Europe, but am now living in Canada.
4 :
I hear they can fire you out of a cannon and reach Europe. Where you land is where you can live. It'll be great. We won't have you and you won't have us.
5 :
That's a waist of time. The psychotic Zionist own most of Europe too.
6 :
Truck driver might not work out so well since they drive on the opposite side of the road in the UK. That takes a LOT of getting used to. To make matters worse, better than half of the roads in the UK are one lane so you have to be ultra careful. Also, housing costs are sky high. What we would consider an average house costs $1,000,000 or more because of the currency exchange rate. I don't know anything about nursing transferability, sorry. Remember, there ARE 49 other states in the US, all different in many ways, but alike in the ways of use to you. Good luck.
7 :
Just as immigration laws in the US are tough, so are those in Europe. In most cases you have to: 1. have a family member or job to sponsor you 2. marry someone from that country 3. have lived and worked there for a certain amount of time In order to get a job there you will need to apply for a work visa (just like US laws). This is easier done if you can line up a job before going over and having your future employer sponsor you. I suggest you read up on the immigration laws for the countries you are looking to move to. http://www.ukimmigration.com/ http://www.immigrantcouncil.ie/ http://switzerland.isyours.com/E/GE/immi.htm As for renouncing your US citizenship, once you gain citizenship from your new country: A person wishing to renounce his or her U.S. citizenship must voluntarily and with intent to relinquish U.S. citizenship: 1. appear in person before a U.S. consular or diplomatic officer, 2. in a foreign country (normally at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate); and 3. sign an oath of renunciation http://www.travel.state.gov/law/citizenship/citizenship_776.html Hope this helped. Good luck.

claim asylum like the other yanks that came to the uk. all u do is come to the uk say u are a poor american and the uk will give u free money and a house. damn everyone in the uk must be either very rich or very poor and on the streets if the avg house price is a 1,000,000 dollers. that is total crap. t

I have a friend that is a logger. The Logging co. he worked for is located here in the Pacific Northwest, but in the 90's when the logging industry was hit so hard, they bid on a job in New Zealand, and got it. My friend and others of the crew obtained work visas, however they were only good for three years max! For some of the guys, the job wasn't finished before the visa's ran out and even though the owner of the co. tried to get extensions for them, they couldn't stay. I think you'll find that some of these other countries don't have a Lady Liberty greeting immigrants and don't WANT one. Maybe you could consider Alaska or Hawaii? Far away but still part of the USA. Might be better than waking up some day to find out you are not only without a job, but also without a country! Bon Voyage!
10 :
Ever wonder why Canada has the highest immigration rate in the world? Because it's the easiest country in the world to find a job (not a mcjob, BTW) But, seriously if not used to asians, don't come to vancouver, 30% of them are chinamen's.
11 :
It looks as if you've already gotten the correct advice on EMigration and REnouncing your citizenship -- just make sure you already have citizenship in another country before you try or it will be a waste of time for you. Renunciation is a legal process that does have certain prerequisites. Quite frankly, if you do not value your American citizenship, I'm glad you're going -- better for you, better for the rest of us. Many others should join you. I doubt the Swiss will EVER let you just show up and live there, unless you marry a Swiss citizen. You'll likely have better luck in an Eastern European country, such as Poland -- they are experiencing severe shortages of certain types of workers. Good luck in your new life, though having heard this many times before, no offense, but I'm sure you won't follow through. One of the best ways to learn to love your country is to actually go and live overseas to see just what we have. If you ARE serious, then contact the consular sections of different countries in Europe that interest you, and ask them how it's done. As for Europe being the "new America", as someone said, well, that's just a joke. India or Brazil has a better chance at claiming that title than anywhere in Europe.
12 :
Join the Foreign Legion? Anyhow...I do not think you can 'claim' citizenship in another country [otherwise we wouldnt have such an immigration prob here lol], you have to apply for it, stating a good reason- according to their standards.
13 :
I believe you will need to go to an american embassy while in another country to renounce your citizenship. I would save money in order to have enough to deal with a mafia entity if you need to buy a wife (depending on where you are). I would go to Amsterdam and enjoy the weed. Wish I could go to as I am a socalist living in this capitalist nation.

Life in Zurich, Switzerland

Life in Zurich, Switzerland?
I am 18 years old, from Canada, and I am planning on moving to Zurich in the next 4 to 5 years after I get my degree for a registered nurse. What is the job outlook for this occupation there? I was wondering if anyone would like to share some experiences of living in Switzerland and give me some advice about the work and life there. I love Europe and I heard that Zurich is one of the best cities. If anyone would like to help me out, it would be greatly appreciated :)

Well, I'm originally from Zürich... I think, it's one of the best towns in Switzerland (but not really in Europe..). It has plenty of jobs to offer as well as unnumbered leisure possibilities. An absolute must, if you want to work there as a nurse: Fluency in German (actually, the language spoken by the locals is called Allemanic, some also call it Swiss-German)! Since you still have a few years to go, use it for that purpose. Living costs are much higher than in Canada which I know from personal travel experience. If you would want to look for a job, first try at the local clinics such as the University Hospital: http://www.en.usz.ch/german/default Good luck!

General In theory there is freedom to travel and seek work between all EU countries. The UK belongs to the European Union (EU), and the other member countries are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. A number of European directives mean your nursing qualification can be recognised in other European countries enabling you to practise there. These European directives offer opportunities to gain valuable experience in other countries. There are however certain administrative procedures and language skills which must be acquired. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Procedure The main obstacle to employment as a qualified nurse or midwife in another European country is the language. Prospects of employment are generally poor if you do not have a good knowledge or qualification (around ‘A’ level standard) of the language of the country. Some ‘British’ and ‘American’ hospitals in Europe will welcome applications for employment from UK-trained nurses and midwives but the working language of these hospitals is the language of the country, except in the case of British Military hospitals, which have their own nursing staff. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Getting a job Advertisements for nursing posts in European countries appear only rarely in UK nurisng magazines and journals such as Nursing Times and Nursing Standard. This is mainly due to employers seeking staff from their own country in many cases. Again a fluent command of the country's language will give you a much better chance of gaining employment. Obvious exceptions to this are the Republic or Ireland, which is now recruiting more nurses from the UK than ever before. Germany will also offer employment opportunities which may include a language tuition course. Jobcentres in the UK have access to European vacancies held on the National Vacancy System (NATVACS) and the Oracle Jobfinder Service. There is also the EURopean Employment Services (EURES) system for finding work in EU countries. Your local Jobcentre will have advisors to help you search these networks. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Studying The content of nursing and midwifery education in the UK has been directly influenced by European directives which have agreed common standards. The EU has education and training programmes, most notably the Socrates programmes, to encourage cooperation between educational institutes and for foreign exchange programmes for students to study abroad and have these periods of study recognised as part of their course. The UKCC now has guidance on student electives abroad and UK nursing students are increasingly taking advantage ot these opportunities. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Extra Advice Working conditions in the UK are directly affected by legislation agreed at European level. Most health and safety legislation in this country designed to protect workers arises directly form decisions of the EU, including manual handling legislation. The same applies to equal pay and equal treatment provisions. Individual employees in this country can take their case to the European Court of Justice in cases of sex discrimination and nurses have taken advantage of this right. European Directives on maternity leave, working time and rest periods, as well as collective redundancies, can all affect nurses and their working conditions. The European Directives concerning the mutual recognition of first level registered general nurses' and midwives qualifications apply to all member countries. All the best :)

We are moving to Switzerland, and I need help

We are moving to Switzerland, and I need help!?
My boyfriend and I are moving to Switzerland within the next 4 years and I was wondering how hard it is to move there. I am in the process of getting my nursing degree and was also wondering if Switzerland has a high demand for nurses like they do in the US. I am looking to get into the mental health field. 1. Is it hard to get a nursing job in Switzerland? 2. How much do they make? 3. Does a US nursing degree transfer to a nursing degree in Switzerland? Thanks in advance.

I don't have the exact answers to your questions, but I would recommend looking into specific health companies that send people around the world. Try to get a second language down pat and have some experience in your home country before looking to transfer. http://www.msf.ca/recruitment/who-is-needed/nurses/

I wouldn't consider Libya if I were you. Look for what happened to the Bulgarian nurses in this country. Switzerland is a much more secure and comfortable place to go. As Filipino, avoid Arabic countries by all means! For Filipino girls and women are highly disregarded and barely considered as more than slaves in those countries. Then same applies to Asian women in general.

Salaries in Switzerland (just like as in any other country) for nurses depend on your experience, special skills and age. Above average, considered "high" - in big cities ca. 1000 EU Average prices in big cities are higher or similar to the "old EU countries". Electronics, cosmetics, clothing, tabbaco, cars are higher then in for ex. Germany or France.

Who is my daughter's husband

Who is my daughter's husband?
I am a poor minister of Cauldkirk, a remote Scottish hamlet. Once an English tourist knocked on our door late in the evening - he lost his way. He fell ill, and stayed in bed for a month. My daughter, Felicia, and my sister Judith nursed him. He fell in love with Felicia and proposed to her. I enquired about his income, his character, and made them wait for 6 month to test them. Both waited, persisted, and married 6 months later. They went on a honeymoon to France and Switzerland. Felicia was very happy. They came back home, and she changed. I visited them, and she told me that her husband acted most strangely: for the first week he came out in the morning to do business in the City, he said; a week later morning business stopped and he started going out in the evening, to his club, he said. He has a closed private room, and buys my daughter expensive presents. Felicia saw him once talking to a loud and vulgar woman with yellow hair. I suspect that he is a gamester. What should we do? When we ask him directly, he shouts and becomes angry.

It's possible that getting a professional degree in a subject, such as nursing, could lead to a work visa and eventually a green card. However, there's no guarantee.

You need to contact the Dept of immigration and Naturalization and ask them for the correct answer. They will tell you what your chances are and what you must do to achieve your goals. I wish you success. America is a wonderful place.

What do you think of the man who proved God existed and came close to sharing

What do you think of the man who proved God existed and came close to sharing?
A woman preacher who came to a church I was attending told about a man who proved God existed through science machines and data work back in 1938. He was an Italian and a staunch atheist and determined to prove God did not exist he set out on a mission but then was shocked when his evidence showed God was real. But the Fascit Italian governemnt, being atheist, got wind of it and refused to allow any evidence of God to be shown and arrested the man and destoryed all his paperwork and photographs. They jailed him for seven years but he secretly kept photocopies in a wallet until he was freed in 1944 and traveld by bus to Switzerland where he set out to duplicate the results. He finally did in 1953 but lost the evidence when the trunk with the evidnece was put on the wrong train back to Italy and he was forced to duplicate it a third time. In 1956, he set out to New York to display the evidence and show the shocked world God existed but ironically the ship he choose was the Andrea Doria and the ship sank off Nantucket and all the evidence and the machines used to prove it sank with the ship to the seabed. The science was unable to duplicate without his oriongal sketchs but he was close to getting the evidence again in 1960 when he died of a heart attack in Rome. He told his story to a nurse who told the story to her niece, who was the women preacher who told it to the Holiness church I attended. What is your views? How does it feel to know we were so close to hearing the truth.

Dear Matthew, I dont know where you are coming from with this. Let me assume you are sincere for a moment. Surely you are aware that "faith" and "proof" are antithetical, arent you? You see, the divine accent is firmly latched onto faith. In spite of the clamour for proof, there is none and there cannot be. You may have noticed a glaring lack of proof, either for or against the existence of God. That is a remarkably neutral balance that He maintains in order to give faith a place to grow. That in itself is noteworthy evidence for those with eyes to see. For the man who looks into a mirror and sees God no additional proof is needed. For the man who sees only his parents offspring, none is possible.

The truth does not require a laboratory, the belief of God is based on faith. We have Jesus to provide us will the actual statement: Jesus said to him, "Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed." John 20:29 What does the above verse mean? This verse is a beatitude on future generations; faith, not sight, matters. Additionally, when we read Isaiah 55:8, 9 it is clear that trying to find God through a scientific study is kind of pointless: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD." "As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts." After reading the above verses how can we ever think that the Almighty is under a microscope lens? God bless'

Green Tea, Coffee, and Wine?

Green Tea, Coffee, and Wine?
Is too much of these for long periods of time beneficial? Green Tea Benefits: Lower Cancer Risk: breast, lung, colon, prostate, cervical, ovarian, mesothelioma, esophageal, stomach. Prevent Heart Disease: lowers cholesterol, prevents artery blockages, lowers blood pressure. Speed Up Weight Loss: fat blocker, boost metabolism, increase endurance, anti-fatigue. Protect Brain Function: memory, stroke, Alzheimer's, Parkinsons. Defend Immune System: flu, salmonella, common cold, HIV-AIDS. More Health Conditions Improved: including anti-aging, acne, allergies, body odor, sleep apnea, osteoporosis. Coffee Benefits: Coffee appears to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, heart disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, cirrhosis of the liver, and gout. Wine Benefits: According Researcher Serge Renaud and his colleagues from the University of Bordeaux, moderate wine consumption reduces death rate because of all causes by 30%. Heart related death rates can decrease by 35%. Cancer related deaths can be reduced by 18-24% by wine. Researchers at the University Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland have found out how wine reduces the risks of strokes. According to researchers Dr. Wilhelm Vetter and his colleagues, alcohol present in the wine is beneficial when taken during meal time. It reduces the growth of pathways to the heart called arteries by 20%. Growth in the size of these pathways can cause heart attacks and strokes. A similar study on the same topic by Israeli researcher Fuhrman and his colleagues found that drinking red wine along with meal reduces a harmful substance called LDL cholesterol by 20%. Rise in this substance indicate higher fat levels in the body. A Dutch study reports that the same practice of drinking red wine along with meals stops clotting of blood in the pathways to the heart. Researcher Gary Curhan and his colleagues from Harvard University conducted a study on 81,000 nurses. They wanted to know the impact of different beverages like tea, coffee, fruit juices, wine, water etc on their health. Out of the 17 beverages included in the study, wine was found to reduce the risk of kidney stone formation by 50%. This finding was again confirmed by researcher Curhan and colleagues in 1996 when they found that wine consumption reduces the risks of kidney stone formation by 39%. A 16 years of research study by Dutch researcher Dr. Thomas Truelsen of Copen-hagen University Hospital, reports that moderate consumption of wine reduces the risks of strokes. Research study on wine in Italy concluded that light to moderate wine consumption do not allow the build up of fats in the pathways of heart. A team of researchers from the University of Illinois has found that a compound called resveratrol can stop the growth of cancer cells in humans. Would having all three of these daily for a long period of time be triple beneficial or would the combination not mix well and be worse for you?

Too much coffee is not good in my opinion, green tea is much better. Coffee dosn't have that many benefits anyway. Too much wine is not too good either, but one cup a day might be okay.
3 :
Taken in moderation there is no reason why these three substances cannot be of benefit in providing health benefits to many people. They might prove especially beneficial to people who already know that there is a family proclivity for certain medical conditions. They are counter-indicated in some conditions, however, and their side effects must be considered. Green tea (black tea as well since it is just an older version of the same tea leaf) can be beneficial.not only for the antioxidant benefit but also for its effect on ROS (reactive oxygen species) and nitric oxide. Remember, however, that caffeine is also present so in effect you will be getting the "coffee" benefits as well as the polyphenol benefits. http://parkinsonsfocustoday.blogspot.com/2009/08/is-it-true-what-they-say-about-black.html The Hawaii study has already demonstrated the long term benefits of moderate caffeine intake in men to at least delay onset of Parkinson's disease and possibly act as a preventative. http://parkinsonsfocustoday.blogspot.com/2010/10/glutamate-caffeine-gene-and-world.html Keep in mind that overindulgence may work in opposition to the protection offered by caffeine especially women/ http://parkinsonsfocustoday.blogspot.com/2008/11/coffeetea-or-me-parkinsons-patient.html It is important to understand that the benefits of reservatrol may be offset by the fact that it is a blood thinner as well as a polyphenol; therefore existing medical conditions must be considered. Muscadine grape seed has high levels of reservatrol which is one of compounds in red wine which is believed to reduce the risk of abnormal cell growth. While there is an overlap in some of the neuroprotection offered by green tea, caffeine and red wine, there is enough difference to suggest that judicious inclusion of all three is a regular diet can be beneficial. The interesting thing is that the benefits may never be seen. By observing one individual - in many cases yourself - It is difficult to see what does not present itself. That is why studies are so important. In a large study there will be the expectation that a certain percent of the participants will develop a medical condition. If the percentages do not correlate at the end of the study, there seems to be an indication that there has been an influencing effect. Again, in moderation, there could be significant benefit. Caffeine is not found in just coffee or tea. It would be wise to avoid soda/pop carbonated drinks which can contain caffeine but a reasonable amount of dark chocolate might be a fine substitute. What this does not suggest is that you can increase your consumption of foods which are known to contain excess amounts of harmful fats. http://www.americanheart.org/downloadable/heart/1232489114784Fats%20%20beneficial%20vs%20harmful.pdf

Chronic Kidney Disease The kidneys also produce hormones responsible for controlling blood pressure and the production and release of red blood cells by the bone marrow, which prevents anemia. The blood reaches the kidneys via the renal arteries that within the kidney are divided into smaller and smaller vessels until they form meandering of fine vases which are the glomeruli.

Based on much research available on the www and on >50 links to university, health and government, including the USDA, all put together on res-juventa. com, I think the answer to your question is Yes, it must be beneficial and the combination of them should not be harmful. Moreover, based on the cited research a good natural, (Spanish) grape based resveratrol product, made from the pulp, the seeds, the skin and the stem of the (Spanish) grapes - which contain trans- and cis-resveratrol, catechin, gallic acid, quercetin, pterostilbene, malvidin, peonidin, petunidin, delhpinidin and cyanidin - such as res-juventa and others, may actually, in single product, address all areas of concern mentioned by you. Some of the research is still in a relatively early stage and I would therefore not (yet) recommend synthetic, high dose (1000mg and more) products. But as long as you stay with a natural, FDA monitored product (look for a FDA registration number on the label; not the product is tested, as FDA does not directly test dietary supplements, but the import and the labeling are monitored) in a range of 350 - 500 mg, it seems to be o.k. This provides all the benefits of a bottle of wine or two a day, without any of the potentially negative effects of alcohol.

Do you think I'm being ungrateful? Is it wrong to feel this way

Do you think I'm being ungrateful? Is it wrong to feel this way?
I'm in my senior year of high school and even though it's just the beginning, there is already a lot of stuff coming up that is going to cost major money. I have three older siblings who are now in there mid to late twenties and no longer live at home. My family would be considered middle class. My stepfather is one of the bigger managers at a grocery store (I don't know what his "official title" is) and my mom works part time as a nurse. I don't ask for a lot of stuff. I usually feel really uncomfortable asking for things, I'm not really sure why. At my school there are a whole bunch of graduation trips. One of them is to Paris, France another to somewhere in Switzerland. The one I really want to go to is to New York. It's for four days and you get to go see two Broadway shows and go to all the museums, and other tourist stuff. It's going to be around $600-700, plus lunch money for each day and spending money. My parents say I probably can't go because it is expensive. I understand it is a lot of money, but I feel really... I don't know what the word is. It's just all of my brothers and sisters got to go on graduation trips (my sister went to Nunavut, and I can't remember where my brothers went) and that was back when my Mom was a single mother. I'm trying to get a job to pay for it myself, but everywhere I apply isn't hiring or has already filled the position, etc. Another thing is I can't go to university I want to go to, not because it's a fancy, prestigious, expensive university, but because it isn't in my home town and therefore my parents won't have enough money. But, they paid for most of my sister and one of brothers tuition, and both of them constantly switched programs (which added costs) and my brother ended up dropping out and my sister took a break because she got pregnant (she's married, don't worry). They also paid all the fees for university applications three or four times for my other brother, and he ended up not going and getting addicted to drugs. I feel like it's wrong for me to feel this way, but at the same time, I just feel like all my brothers and sisters were given tons of opportunities to go the universities they wanted and the trips and stuff and I'm not. I know things are really expensive (otherwise I'd just pay for them myself) and costs have gone up, times are harder, my parents have other things the need to pay for, etc, etc. And that really I should contribute (I try, but I don't really have any money, because I can't get a job) and that I'm lucky to even have the chance to go to university... I'm just, I don't know. I feel gipped, kind of :S (Sorry this is so long, I ramble)

If they gave your bros and sis all that help and you usually don't ask for much, they should allow you to go. I hope you can go, I love NYC.
2 :
Two big questions - one about a senior trip to NYC and another about university costs. Keep in mind that the world wide economy is now terrible compared to just a few years ago when your siblings were your age. Reports about the economy are in the news on a daily basis so you are probably aware of how bad it is. This has nothing to do with your mom and stepdad wanting or not wanting to send you someplace, it's a financial reality. Is your biological father available to help? If so, ask him for some assistance - maybe matching funds if you earn part of the money for the trip. Jobs are not plentiful right now. Most jobs that were historically held by teens (fast food, part time shop work) have now been taken by adults who are supporting their families. Still, it doesn't mean jobs are not available. Get creative. You can do the standby babysitting work - even a regular after school or Saturday sitting job for someone in the neighborhood. It could mean sacrificing some social activity but at least you would have the job and income. Walk dogs, have a yard sale, paint or do yard work for your neighbors. Do computer input for people who are less savvy - including correspondence or accounting - QuickBooks Accounting is an easy program. A few hours of data input a day in a small office would help you as well as the business owner. It would also give you another job skill. As far as university expenses, financial assistance, scholarships and grants are available and not just based on your academic background. Check out CLEP, the College Level Examination Program. Talk to your high school adviser about the program or look on line. It will save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars in tuition and book expenses and it will save you many class room hours because you can test out of electives. I tested out of 15 hours and my brother tested out of 27 hours. That was equivalent to a semester for me and almost two for my brother. That is also a lot of saved tuition. Think hard about attending a junior or community college for the first two years. In the U.S. most JCs work closely with state universities to transfer all credits to a four year program. You could live at home, work, attend school and sock away some money for the last two and most important years of your degree program. You will also have a better understanding of where you want your life to go. Don't discount the military either. Depending on your country, you may be able to have the government pay for your education, in full, in exchange for your service. Most of all, talk to your siblings, parents and stepdad. They may have untapped information to share. Good luck.

What to do when Depression comes back

What to do when Depression comes back?
I have had depression since I was 9, and last year (17) I went off my meds with the help of a councelor. I was really really good, and seemed to be in controle of my Depression. THen I made a stupid mistake and moved to Switzerland. I am only out here till January (and my mom is coming in December) So I dont have long to wait, 47 days. But I think my depression is coming back. I can hardly wake up in the morning, I have to FORCE myself out of bed. and if it wasnt for the fact that 2 kids are here needing my care I wouldnt get out of bed. On weekends I sleep the WHOLE weekend. I wake up sometimes to go to the bathroom then crawl back into bed. I feel like there is no hope and the days arent passing. I feel like its forever and a day till I can go home. I can not afford my meds out here on my salary, so is there anything I can do to just calm myslef and give myself hope and energy? p.s. I am taking a multi vitamin since my grandma thought it would help with the fatigue (shes a nurse) and its the routine that kills me. Im not allowed to leave the house because the little one isnt supposed to go outside. I have to stay indoors 24/7. the last time I actually went out was on Saturday for 20 min. and the time before that was Saturday again. im an aupair, but thanks for being so ignorant. not everyone is a younge mom. I hate that everyone assumes that. I cant go out because I work all day and have no time. I am not allowed to go out with the younge one.

Your children could be a good driving force in your ability to function but I know that its not that easy. I would set up a calender and count down the days. Call home if you can as often as you can.You don't have that much more time to go. And as soon as you get home...go to the Dr's. I would also set up a daily regiment so that should keep you on track some. I suffer from depression to so I know what you are going through. Good luck.
2 :
It s that time of year when the dark nights cause depression I think that you should try to get some one to look after your children and take time to your self every one should take at least 4 hours to get you head shired and get involved in a hobby , go skiing eat out or just have a coffee and try to relax you don't say if your husband or partner is with you if he is he could be more supportive if not use the time when your mother comes over to help explain your feelings to her let her be your crutch good luck and i hope you turn you life around
3 :
You are in a difficult position right now. Depression influences one's perceptions, and the deeper the depression the more hopeless, helpless and dark seems one's plight. Try to keep in mind that these are symptoms that can and will be alleviated once you are able to restart medication. Can anyone send you money for meds? My biggest concern is that you may become suicidal. Email me via my profile if you like.
4 :
coping skills. im not going to bust your a-- about having kids and being young. im sure your a great mom. try to right down some goals as to what yo uhope to acomplish and what steps you "hope" to make in order to get where you hope to get to in order to start your new life

Thank you to all who answered my question on euthanasia

Thank you to all who answered my question on euthanasia!!!?
Thank you to all those answerers who decided to answer my question. I see that most would be supportive of legalizing euthanasia. Legalizing only means that the doctor/nurse who helps you along cannot be prosecuted for murder. Did any of you know that Oregon has euthanasia laws? Another country is the Netherlands adn a third one is Switzerland. Legalizing this would ensure that those who don't want to live due to terminal illness can get the chance of a dignified final exit--unlike suicide which can be painful and go wrong.... As far as my condition is concerned am I at the point where quality of life does suffer--but I decided to stick it out a little while longer, because I do want to meet my grandchildren before I make that final deciion...so thank you for all the good opinions, which I had not expected.

I hope the time until you make that decision is filled with love and joy. Hugs to you.
3 :
Be honest with your doctor when its time too. Majority of doctors will help you go quietly and with the pain control they have now, it is more dignified. I have seen many patients just use the pain control to pass away, on mutual sides by doctors and patient and family, just discuss it now ahead of time, so that way you know where you stand with your doctor when the time arises. I'm sorry to hear about your condition.
4 :
I live in Washington state, only a 150 miles or so from Oregon. Their assisted suicide law is a model for the rest of the nation, in my opinion. Washington is trying to hash one out now. I applaud you in your battle; even though you are having some problems, I believe that it's important to keep going as long as you reasonably can. Life is a precious commodity, and I hope that you make it to see your grandchildren. Dylan Thomas was right: "Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light." but it's also right to let go when you have striven your utmost best. I don't know if you are a believer, but I hope that you will have refuah shlema - the renewal of mind, body, and spirit, to deal with what you must. Shalom.

Is this a good beginning

Is this a good beginning?
This is just the beginning of a book i'm writing, but it's not finished yet. prolouge-Emerald eyes On June seventeenth, at exactly the stroke of midnight, a baby girl weighing eight pounds and six ounces, with her feternal twin was born to Michael and America Mendler. Two proud parents, already mother and father to many. Matthew, Maxamillion, Michael, Athena, Arena, Jerimiah and Josphia. The year was 1998 at Edwards Hospital in Naperville, Illinois. Two nurses held uo the twins, side by side, both wrapped in pink. The other twin was asleep, but the other was wide awake. Ger eyes were wide with wonder, her eyes bright and clear, a smile on her gace. Her blanket couldn't restrain her tiny arms and skinny little hands. A small whisp of blond hair was sticking up on her head. Her eyes lashes were black, despite her blond hair. Her skin was a bright shade of ivory, there was no color in her cheeks or the rest of her. The nurses were baffled by the one twin's excited behavior and weir features but relieved by the other twin's normal behavior. One twin would drink formula, the abnormal twin would only drink fat free milk mixed with warm honey. One twin clung to both her parents, the other wanted only her dad. One woke up every hour or so, the other slept through the night. One twins teeth were soft and milky colored, the others were strong and white, adult teeth. They weren't sharp or jagged, like a person might think they'd be. And this child, she was curious, bright, sweet and wild. "What shall you name them?"A nurse asked, passing the demanding, abnormal twin to her father as another passed the normal, sweet little twin to her mother. "I haven't got a clue."Michael said, rocking his baby girl slowly, trying to lull her to sleep, but it didn't work. Failed attempt number....ten? To lull her to sleep. The other twin, the normal twin, was fast asleep in her mothers arms. The mother slowly rocked the baby in her arms, giving the abnormal twins name some thought. She came up with a name when she saw a flower through the window, by a pond. It was a water lily. and it was beautiful. "Lily Belle."America said out loud. The baby girl clapped her hands and squealed in her fathers arms. And then the mother sighed and to her normal baby, "Laurel Whyte." Soon after, the twins were being passed from child to child in the Mendler family. Lily dazzled everyone. But they dazzled her, too. Being dazzled while dazzling. Everyone loved Lily but Lily loved everyone, too. She loved her father the most. Soon after Lily and Laurel were born, at the age of one month, Lily and her family moved to Copenhogden, Denmark. The family lived there for four long years, until a tragedy struck the family. Michael dissapeared one day while fishing on the families boat in the ocean. they moved after a year of searching for him. They set up searches in the near country, Sweden. Also in other countries like, Germany, Switzerland, France. The family soon gave up and America moved everyone to Kansas where they started a farm. The other's didn't like to work, but Lily did. Working up from feeding chickens, to brushing and taking horses, to repainting fences and mailboxes and picking and planting in the garden. When Lily reached the age of twelve, another tragedy struck her life. Her mother died in a car crash with her friends parents. Flatt Quenn, Jeliah Mixx, Jazmin Young, Cedric Yorkk and his baby sister, Rukai Yorkk were also left parentless. But let's begin this story on June seventeen, five thirty in the morning. Was that a good beginning? leave answers to let me know!

Wow it's totally a good beginning! But i think you should do it the way you like it... I'm writing myself a book, I'm 14 years old, and it doesn't looks even a little bit like this opening you have there. It's a great introduction for what's about to happen. Quite interesting i should say. Good luck with that book of yours and keep on it, I think it's going to be really good.
2 :
It's a really interesting idea but right away I'm curious about why the parents have so many children. It might get confusing to tell them all apart later. You could edit the first two sentences together. For instance (and I don't think you need 'exactly') Also, are both twins girls? You mean fraternal. No need to mention the weight unless it's a detail that will come out later. Too much description bogs it down. 'On June 17, 1998 at the stroke of midnight, fraternal baby girls were born to Michael and America Mendler. (any reason the reader needs to know the name of the hospital?) Two nurses held the twins side by side, both wrapped in pink. One (the other and the other?) was asleep, but the other was wide awake with eyes full of wonder (newborn babies can't smile, sorry.) A small whisp of blond hair was sticking up on her head although her lashes were black. (bright shade of ivory? Consider revising. It doesn't make sense) At this point I think you should name the twins so when you refer from one to the other the reader will know who you mean. If this is 1998, don't say 'shall.' It's old fashioned. Edit all the stuff describing them way down and *please* don't use the word dazzling over and over. I had a Twilight flashback. Not good. Tell the story in as few words as possible. For instance When they were one month old, the family moved to Copenhogden, Denmark. Simple. Then you flash forward four years, so that seems to happen too fast and then they move again. It's confusing. One move is enough. Then Lily is twelve? slow it down a little. Then there's another tragedy and then you say 'let's begin?' The Mom dying seems like overkill and the story's already begun so you don't need that. Keep working on it and good luck!

I liek Verena. The other doesn't seem very appealing. Sounds like you're trying too hard to sound original. Like naming your kid Apple.
2 :
Don't really like Verena, but I think Evanthia is really pretty!
3 :
Verena sounds like a woman's sanitary product. Evanthia sounds like the name an investment group might give itself. Verena is quite nice though.
4 :
I like the sound of verana better , but I don't like either really
5 :
weird <_<
6 :
Verena sounds alright; kind of like Serena with a V. I don't care for Evanthia at all. It just isn't my style. I don't find it to be a pretty name at all. So I suppose I'd go with Verena, but I'm not loving either one to be honest.
7 :
I like Evanthia! It's unique. Verena sounds like a medical condition.
8 :
They are both so pretty! :) Verena is nice, similar to Serena, which makes it look normal, but not over the top. I cannot get over how beautiful the name Evanthia is, but it's a bit "too out there".
9 :
well, Verena sounds better to me. Claire and Isabelle are both beautiful names!
10 :
I like unusual names and think both are very pretty. To me safe names can sometimes, and I do mean only sometimes, be boring. Evanthia is my favorite of the two.
11 :
I like them both better than Isabelle. But Claire is one of my favorites for a middle name.

Opinions on my chances of getting into Harvard or any of the IVY's

Opinions on my chances of getting into Harvard or any of the IVY's?
I just finished junior year in a new school. I am Ecuadorian, and i studied their my whole life till this year in which I moved to Phillips Exeter Academy alone. The change was brutal to me and thus my usual 3.6 GPA got destroyed till my spring term grades in which I almost have a B+ average. My fall and winter terms were both B- average.my cumulative gpa for Junior year was a 7.4 which is midway between a B- and B Do you think Harvard will understand that? I am hoping that my senior fall grades will be around an A- average. My class this past year haven't been AP but I was in accelerated Russian and above average level math class. I am planning on next year taking a lot harder courses. As for my extracurricular activities, I have done 4 years of swimming, 1 year of fencing, 1 year of golf. Except for swimming (JV) i have never tried out for teams. I won a gold tournament in 9th grade back home. I have worked at a pizza restaurant that past couple summers. I also used to volunteer as a translator for Doctors that came to ecuador to operate for free. I also used to have an internship at a vet clinic. I have been in the Student government as a class representative and participated in MUN. At Exeter I volunteered at a nursing home once a week for 2 hours and I am also part of the student listener organization, which is a club that helps and listens to other students when they have problems, and the International Student Organization. I am proficient in English, Spanish, Russian. I can understand Italian, and I have just finished one year of Latin. I spent last summer in Siberia teaching English and Spanish. This summer I am going with a program to Tanzania to build schools and orphanages and then to Israel for some more volunteer work. Before this I spent a one month of my sophomore summer at a summer school in Switzerland and another one in London. I havent yet taken the SAT II so I am unsure of the scores but I am hoping to have well above average scores. As for the SAT I took it the first time June 4th, the scores still haven't arrived, but because of all the practice tests I think I will get above a 2000 but below a 2300. So do you think I have a shot at applying to Harvard? Thank you for reading it all

You should definitely apply if that is where you want to go. If you are passionate enough, you have a shot. Nothing is impossible. You should always apply to the schools you want to go to the most and backup schools. Good luck!

PETA Urges Ben & Jerry's To Use Human Milk

PETA Urges Ben & Jerry's To Use Human Milk!?
Has PETA gone over the edge? WATERBURY, Vt. -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace cow's milk they use in their ice cream products with human breast milk, according to a statement recently released by a PETA spokeswoman. "PETA's request comes in the wake of news reports that a Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 percent of the cow's milk in the food he serves," the statement says. PETA officials say a move to human breast milk would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health. "The fact that human adults consume huge quantities of dairy products made from milk that was meant for a baby cow just doesn't make sense," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "Everyone knows that 'the breast is best,' so Ben & Jerry's could do consumers and cows a big favor by making the switch to breast milk." "We applaud PETA's novel approach to bringing attention to an issue, but we believe a mother's milk is best used for her child," said a spokesperson for Ben and Jerry's. Read PETA's letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield September 23, 2008 Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, CofoundersBen & Jerry's Homemade Inc. Dear Mr. Cohen and Mr. Greenfield, On behalf of PETA and our more than 2 million members and supporters, I'd like to bring your attention to an innovative new idea from Switzerland that would bring a unique twist to Ben and Jerry's. Storchen restaurant is set to unveil a menu that includes soups, stews, and sauces made with at least 75 percent breast milk procured from human donors who are paid in exchange for their milk. If Ben and Jerry's replaced the cow's milk in its ice cream with breast milk, your customers-and cows-would reap the benefits. Using cow's milk for your ice cream is a hazard to your customer's health. Dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies, constipation, obesity, and prostate and ovarian cancer. The late Dr. Benjamin Spock, America's leading authority on child care, spoke out against feeding cow's milk to children, saying it may play a role in anemia, allergies, and juvenile diabetes and in the long term, will set kids up for obesity and heart disease-America's number one cause of death. Animals will also benefit from the switch to breast milk. Like all mammals, cows only produce milk during and after pregnancy, so to be able to constantly milk them, cows are forcefully impregnated every nine months. After several years of living in filthy conditions and being forced to produce 10 times more milk than they would naturally, their exhausted bodies are turned into hamburgers or ground up for soup. And of course, the veal industry could not survive without the dairy industry. Because male calves can't produce milk, dairy farmers take them from their mothers immediately after birth and sell them to veal farms, where they endure 14 to17 weeks of torment chained inside a crate so small that they can't even turn around. The breast is best! Won't you give cows and their babies a break and our health a boost by switching from cow's milk to breast milk in Ben and Jerry's ice cream? Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Tracy Reiman Executive Vice President I am somewhat biased as I own a dairy and we treat our cows very well. They get the best feed, clean bedding, and living conditions, vet care, etc. We don't sell to veal farms(I have never heard of them). What do you the yahoo public think? Ghira ^ look up^

to me, PETA is usually always overboard a lot of times.
2 :
I get annoyed with PETA because they go overboard. In fact, I used to get their mailings, and after requesting, several times, to be removed from their list, to no avail, I proceeded to send them a thick packet (in their self-addressed postage pre-paid envelope), a ton of recipes, including roast, leg of lamb, fried chicken...you get the idea. They never contacted me again, fortunately. I would not want to buy ice cream with human breast milk in it. I think that's grose, but then, I also think cow's milk is grose. That's why I drink rice milk and almond milk. The cow's milk makes me sick!
3 :
yes, PETA has gone overboard again. it's sad that there is an organization that treats animals better than humans. not to mention, with a new demand for breast milk in mass produced food products i can picture another reason for welfare mothers to sit on their butts and make money.
4 :
I heard about that. That is gross. I strongly oppose animal cruelty and abuse and killing animals for luxury like furs, tusks, horns, etc. However, I don't support PETA itself.
5 :
After I got over the initial shock, I laughed out loud because this is preposterous! Seriously, are they going to have "wet nurse" (slaves or other women who nursed the owner's/employer's child) farms or labs? PETA just wanted to get their name out there and used any tactic for publicity. Just dismiss them - I know they're trying to do good - but even one of their spokesperson's spoke out against this. I'll try to find the story, and post it.
6 :
Yes I had heard about this. it is insane! These people are insane. First they would have to find women to volunteer, and they would need to find ALOT, we produce just enough for our babies. I see slavery coming out of this and who in their right mind would buy something like this. Dr Spock- the leading expert on child care? Yeah maybe some people think that way. I think the people at PETA really need to get a clue and do some research. How do they know breast milk really is healthier? There could be a reason that only babies use breast milk. I wonder if it is not good for adult consumption. Cow milk has been used for human consumption forever, I doubt it really is that bad. We know that it is bad for infant consumption, but after the child is a year or so, it is fine. It is my belief that animals were put here for a purpose and that Humans were put here for a higher purpose. When we place animal life as more important than human life we offend God.
7 :
Who takes PETA seriously anyway? These are terrorists who throw blood on people for wearing fur and throw rocks at children who fish. According to PETA "owning or possessing" animals for pets is wrong, Owning a pure bred pet is worse as that was unnatural breeding. They believe all animals should be allowed to free roam and breed at will. The believe you should not spay or neuter any animals. I would suggest members of PETA should be spayed or neutered except that really isn't necessary because the males are already psychologically neutered by the alpha-bitches.

how can i draw these...?
i need to do a comic strip with 10 events here they are: 1. Agnes Elizebeth Joy was born on 12/25/1844 in Swanton, VT. 2. Her family moved to Quebec when she was very young. She ran away and joined the circus She was an equestrienne (rides horses) She also became a dancer and an acteress using the name Mlle. Agnes LeClercq. 3. She married Colnel (Felix) Salm-Salm. He held the title of Prince in Prussia, but his brother was crown prince. Agnes received several commisions, her husband, Salm, fought in Mexico, Agnes went with him. She was noted for her steadiness and her calm power. 4. August 18, 1870, Felix was killed, buried on the battlefield. Agnes would not have that. She went with an escort and retrieved his body for a Catholic burial. 5. She returned to nursing and was known as "Empress"- female ruler of an empire. 6. She lived in Switzerland and was known as the Baroness Stein. She worked with the nuns in the army hospitals. 7. Later, she moved to Italy. She met and married Charles Heneage in 1876. 8. She moved back to New York in 1899 by herself. She continued to work and began to raise money for ambulances. 9. She wrote a book called 10 ears of my life. She was the subject of an article in 1890 that she was a woman of the title who has again sprung into prominence-standing out, untiring tin her efforts to lessen the suffering of men in battle. 10. Well - maybe it's not so much a comic strip as a "drawing" of that moment in time. For #1, for example, draw a mother holding a child and then, next to it, a birth announcement with the data. For #2 - show her standing on a horse in a circus rink. For #3 - draw a bride and groom and a wedding announcement For #4, - show a battlefield and a death announcement. Show her over the grave (with a shovel?) And so on - good luck For #5 -
